We visited Cockatoo Island - Sydney this weekend to check out the Urs Fischer exhibtion. We actually found the island a lot more inspiring than the exhibtion. Urs works across a diverse range of media, using a variety of raw materials and everyday objects to produce engaging sculptural installations .The exhibition runs from 20th April to the 3rd June. Rainy day diversion
Yesterday was a public holiday and it was raining all day and we were all in the house. Wanting to avoid having the tv on, a great diversion for one hour was Tux Paint. All my kids loved it aged 3-8years. Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative. And It is free to download!
This is one of Salvadors (3 years) creations.....

Learning to Love you more
Learning to love you more is both a web site and series of non-web presentations comprised of work made by the general public in response to assignments given by artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher.
Assignments include...
No 39. Take a picture of your parents kissing
No.20 Take a family portrait of two families
Go to a park, beach or other public place and locate two separate families who are having a picnic or barbeque. Ask the two families to join together so that you can take a group picture of them. Try to find two families who don't know each other and who look different from each other.

Sydney Film Festival
The Sydney Film Festival will be adding a childrens strand to their programme for 2007. The festival will include six sessions designed to introduce the kids to something different on the big screen. I will keep you posted on which films have been selected.
I have been attempting to brain-wash my children with films I love and directors. Oscar loves Hairspray (John Waters, 1988) ** please note this is the only John Waters film that would be suitable for a child. Another family favourite is the Australian musical Starstruck by Gillian Armstrong. The Royal Tenenbaums is also a great film for older children.
We are also looking forward to Little Big Shots at the Sydney Opera House. This event started out in Melbourne and has also been extended to around Australia and also Singapore.
